Value retention and upcycling
Tearing down or renovate? Double rent or moderate rent increase?
In the last decade, the demand for living space has increased, according to estimates made by the Federal Office for Housing; an increase from from 40 to 55 square meters per person. And the existing housing stock only partially meets these requirements. Three quarters of the approximately 3.5 million flats and houses in Switzerland are older than 20 years, and a quarter of them was even built before the Second World War. If you want the Swiss Apartment market to adapt and live up to the changing housing demands, without the having to tear down, then innovative strategies for renovations and additions are needed to provide affordable housing – we call it Upcycling.
