Single family house
The new construction project consists of a spacious single-family house consisting of two levels with attic and view on the lake of Zurich. The facade surfaces are designed as a wooden construction with rear ventilation and outside horizontal formwork. Interior steel supports take over the supporting functions. In the core of the building reinforced concrete walls are provided instead of steel columns, which show on the inside as exposed concrete. The ceilings of the building are solidly constructed of reinforced concrete. The house should be groundbreaking in terms of its building envelope and building technology for the use of high-insulation glazing.
The project, which is located on the outskirts of the village, has a compact but staggering ground risk situation that optimally fits into the terrain. The northern and horizontal parts of the building around the centrally located access tract are adapted to the environment and show a restrained, solid character. The south-west side, on the other hand, is designed to be open with a large proportion of window area and receives an individual impression through upstream shading elements. The recessed attic level determines the appearance with the play between open and closed surfaces.
Pilot- and Demonstration project
Large-area glazing makes rooms translucent and simultaneously provides high solar records that help to reduce energy consumption and can be controlled by the shutters. By contrast, the window surfaces represent the weak point of the insulated building envelope, since the insulating ability of the glazing is considerably lower in comparison to opaque surfaces.
Therefore, highly insulating windows are effective for optimizing the energy requirements of the building. Highly insulating vacuum glasses offer the possibility of lowering the U-value that can be achieved with conventional glazing. This effect has a strong impact on the energy balance, especially in buildings with a high proportion of the windows.
The insulating effect is achieved by a vacuum-filled thin, tightly sealed layer. The optimized insulation properties can already be realized with thin glazing. Therefore, the formation of filigree and lightweight window designs is possible. Lowering the required material reduces the amount of gray energy.
Particular attention is paid to the development of the transition from marginalization to framework within the framework of the pilot and demonstration project. The edge seal is in vacuum glazing of a glass-glass construction and is therefore less favorable than conventional windows in thermal terms. The aim is to develop a highly heat-insulated, as delicate as possible, marketable framework.
The project Austrasse Meilen offers the best conditions for the implementation of the test as part of the pilot and demonstration project, as the building has a large glazed south / east and west side. In addition, the project is accessible for measurements and tests, providing the best possible verification of the efficiency of the glazing. Due to the architectural design of the building, the building is in a position to place a special value as a reference for vacuum glazing in architecture and to point the way to potential investments in the field of vacuum glazing.
